602 Coffee House

602 Coffee House is located right next to Sancho’s Tacos in Huntington Beach, just off PCH and directly across from the beach. It’s basically a garage converted to a coffee shop, and the only seating is outside, so it’s best to come on a nice day.

Though the coffee is great, the main reason I come here is the staff. The first time I went in, while I was ordering, the cashier said: “I think I follow you on Instagram.” For a guy whose following isn’t that big, from that point on, I’ve thought, “this is my spot.”

A low-key spot where “Regulars” are family

The staff is super friendly, and they always treat the regulars well. I can be in the back of the line, and I’ll look up and they’ll hold up two cups so I can point to which one I want. By the time I get to the front of the line to pay, my coffee is ready. My coffee addiction was so great at one point that instead of writing my name on the cup, they started writing “My Guy.” Everyone gets a good laugh from it.

Be careful. It’s addictive

Everyone that I bring to 602 is instantly addicted to this coffee. They use beans from a roaster called Anita Marie Coffee. You can now buy their beans online, but before that, I would have to buy the Bananas Foster Beans at 602 and ship them to my friends.

3 of my faves

Bananas Foster Cold Brew. Preferred method? One pump of caramel syrup (not the drizzle), and a splash of oat milk. It’s TO DIE FOR.

Oat Milk Latte. I order Rose, Lavender, or Rose Lavender together. When some shops make these lattes, they taste like you’re drinking potpourri. Not here. The flavor is strong enough to taste, but not overpowering to the coffee flavor. With that said, it’s SWEET…a bit too much for my taste. I recommend ordering it half sweet (they use ½ the amount of syrup, which tampers down not only the sweetness, but also the floral flavoring).

Acai Bowl. There are three different sizes (but they only advertise two sizes). The large size is GIANT (a 32oz container). I could never finish one. The regular size is 16oz – this is typically plenty for me. For the times that I just want a taste or need a light breakfast, I order the small; I think it’s a 12oz container. For flavors, they make three different bowls.

  • “Berry Nice” – Acai, strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries.

  •  “Paradise” – Acai, kiwi, mango, pineapple, strawberries, and banana.

  • The “Power Bowl” is my favorite – Acai, bananas, peanut butter, strawberries, and blueberries. There’s just something about the peanut butter and acai combination that I love. Of course, you can always get this added to one of the other bowls as well. All the bowls come standard with granola and a honey/agave drizzle.

Honorable Mention: Avocado Toast

If you just want a low-key avocado toast, this gets the job done. It’s nothing revolutionary, but it’s definitely tasty. It’s mashed avocado with sriracha, and microgreens served on multigrain toast.

While I don’t have a dog, this spot is very dog-friendly and a great place to bring your furry friend. They have a water bowl and a jar of treats for all the pups that stop by – and they get some VERY cute ones that come through.
