Faicco’s
Located in Greenwich Village is the most amazing Italian deli, Faicco’s. They have everything an Italian could ever want: burrata, mozzarella, olives, pickles, veal, beef, pork shoulder, multiple types of sausage, ribeye, ground beef, prosciutto, bresaola, capicola, salami, crushed tomatoes, tomato puree, even prepared daily specials like eggplant parmesan, broccoli rabe, and penne vodka. You get the idea…they have EVERYTHING.
Made-to-order sandwiches
Faicco’s is not only a specialty store, but they also serve incredible sandwiches, and there isn’t a single one that looks bad. The options span a wide range: classic Italian, chicken parm, eggplant parm, veal parm, chicken cutlet with pesto, meatball, sausage with broccoli rabe…the list goes on. They’re HUGE, too. You can easily split one between two people—or get multiple meals out of it. Or perhaps you simply graze on it all day.
My faves
I pretty much always order the classic Italian or the chicken cutlet with pesto. Both are amazing. Once in a while, I’ll choose the chicken or eggplant parmesan. I want to try the others, but since I know all my faves are so good, I just can’t force myself to deviate. Plus—look at the cheese pulls in the photos. ‘Nuff said.
Classic Italian. Always a safe choice. There’s nothing unique about this one, but note that at Faicco’s, they do an excellent job with this classic. Everything is super fresh.
Chicken Parm. See below. They do a fantastic job with this one.
Chicken Cutlet with Pesto. A combination I haven’t seen at an Italian deli before. It’s hot, delicious, and exactly what you want in your belly on a cold Sunday afternoon.
Eggplant Parm. Calling all vegetarian friends! This is a mouthwatering sandwich. I really love it, though as a carnivore, I lean toward meat most often.
All in all, Faicco’s gets 5 stars in my book. They really know their sandwiches. I guess that is what has made the shop survive for 120 years.
