Shari Shari

Chocolate Kakigori

You won’t find anything like Kakigori, the Japanese dessert, in the US. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever eaten. So, if you visit Hong Kong, a stop at Shari Shari is obligatory. You have the option of two locations: Central and Causeway Bay. You won’t regret it!

Does size really matter?

One of the things I just love about this place is that it’s a tiny little hole in the wall. There are only four tables, which really works for the concept. You’re not going to camp out for long because you’re only ordering dessert. In this case, the smaller, the better.

Like freshly fallen snow

This dessert is unlike anything I’ve ever had. The shaved ice is covered with condensed milk and a flavored syrup. The super-light and fluffy texture tickles your tongue, almost like freshly fallen snow. (The powdery snow, not the wet, icy type.) As the ice is shaved, the center is then filled and covered with more ice. Once complete, they pour sweetened condensed milk over the top.

Eat it quickly or regret it!

They’re not joking when they say you have to devour it right away. There’s even a sign that “limits” the time customers spend taking photos; you don’t want it to completely melt before you eat it!

Sharing is caring

The serving is huge. I recommend ordering one to share between 2-3 people. We ordered the chocolate. It was delicious, and we welcomed the cookie filling – it was a nice change of texture.

Overall, worth the quick stop. Share with a friend.
